Searching and Sorting

Searching

To search within the results:

  • Right-click on any column header and select Show Search Panel.
  • A Search text box is displayed on top of the report. It allows you to search for terms or phrases within the report. Enter your search term or phrase here.

  • The Search acts like a combination search and filter.  Only rows containing the search term are visible.

Sorting
Table reports are initially sorted based on the way the underlying data are provided to Mercury, which is determined by the
developer or database administrator. It’s possible that no sorting was specified at all. Regardless of the initial order, Mercury lets you sort however you wish - either by a single column or multiple columns.

Sorting a single column

The current sort order is indicated by the Up or Down triangle in the column header. If a triangle does not appear in the column header, it would mean that no explicit sorting has been applied.

To sort: Click once in the column-header (avoiding the column’s “filter” icon). If there is no sorting triangle already in the column header, data are sorted in ascending order. If there is a sorting-triangle present, the sort direction is reversed.

In the example below, you can see that the sort "CUSTNAME" has been changed from ascending to descending.

Sorting multiple columns simultaneously

  1. Press (and hold) the Shift key on the keyboard.

  2. With the Shift key down, click on one or more column headers If a header hsa no triangle, the initial sort is ascending. If there is a triangle, the sorting direction will be reversed. The sorting is based on the order in which you shift-click the columns. The sorting indicator includes a number showing you the order in which the columns are sorted.

The screenshot below shows a report sorted on three columns: first by VendorID, then by Class, and finally by Company.

  3. Note: If you click a column-header without holding the SHIFT key, then any existing multiple-column sort is lost, and the data are sorted only by the clicked column (as described above in the section “Sorting a single column”).

Removing a Sort

To remove all multi-column sorting (and replace it with a single-column sort), simply click a column-header (without SHIFT). This will sort your data only by that column.

To remove the sorting from a specific column, right-click the column-header and choose Clear Sort from the context menu.
