Mercury Overview
What is Mercury?
Mercury is a general-purpose reporting and analysis tool that works with a variety of databases - for example: SQL Server, MySQL, Business Central (and other OData sources), CSV files, and others.
Reporting and analysis are no longer separate; you work directly with your report results to customize the layout and perform whatever analysis you need.
Mercury makes creating and using reports easy. Your IT department just needs to get the data. There’s no need for the typical time and frustration involved in micro-managing a report layout. Once data are available, creating a report is easily done by anybody and typically takes 5 minutes. If you don’t like something, change it yourself, on the spot. No more waiting for someone else, or enduring endless rounds of back-and-forth tweaking.
Your customization - including layout changes, analysis (like calculated fields or conditional formatting) - can be saved, re-used, and shared.
Mercury’s Main Window
The main Mercury window has four sections.
- The Report List (and parameter entry area) on the left. You can search, sort, filter, group, and color-code your reports.
- The Report Canvas / Result Tabs in the open area. Report results are displayed and analyzed here. Work with multiple reports at the same time, and arrange them however you wish.
- The Ribbon Menu at the top - offers various features and operations. The Ribbon may change based on the report that you’re currently working in.
- The Status Bar along the bottom - usually has a brief note about the last operation. On the right side, contains a zoom/magnification control.
Report Types
Mercury supports four different report types.
Two "native" report types allow you to interactively customize and analyze your report results.
You can also run these types of reports:
- SSRS
- Crystal
If your company has SSRS and/or Crystal reports, they’ll appear in your Mercury report list. All your reports are together, run from the same place, in the same way.
